Victor’s
sets dining standard in Pee Dee area…
“The Florence Junior League began its restaurant critiquing at Victor’s
Bistro. The atmosphere at Victor’s was light and romantic with a European
feel. Peggy Yarborough entertained us with a beautiful medley of tunes on the
piano. Our table was in the main room (the Bistro) and was very neat & professionally
arranged…We began the evening with a wonderful wine – the Murphy-Goode
Reserve Fume…Our group had a tough time selecting from the wonderful selection
of appetizers. The Jordans selected fried Calamari. It was cooked to perfection
and smelled wonderful…Flo enjoyed the pork tenderloin. Robert described
his Veal Parmesan as a generous portion that was tender and easy to enjoy. My
own Shrimp Scampi was an excellent selection…Victor’s specials are
an excellent value and highly recommended. Our group awarded Victor’s with
the coveted rating of 9 Corks. Victor’s has definitely set a standard for
dining in the Pee Dee area.”

Victor’s…a
quiet evening for two or meal with good friends
“You don’t have to look any
farther than Florence. A visit to Victor’s
Bistro on Irby Street is all you need…Bill
Harwell is not only the owner of Victor’s,
he’s the chef. He’s a specialist, creating
several masterpieces to choose from…Cooked
to perfection, the thick tenderloin placed an emphasis
on tender, almost cutable with a fork only. The
lobster tails were delicious, served with warm
melted butter…The atmosphere at Victor’s
is akin to being in your own home or the home of
best friends…You cannot help but feel that
sense of warmth and welcome. Treat yourself to
a visit to Victor’s and a touch of European
high life!”

Victor’s
in Florence. It’s the place to go…
“Victor’s is decorated very much like the bistros and restaurants
along the French coast, with light, spaciousness and plenty of atmosphere. This
place has class…The oysters were fried to perfection, plump, juicy and
served over savory greens with a horseradish aeoll – absolutely scrumptious!...
Then,
came the tuna; an artistic and culinary delight. I’ve eaten tuna tetakki
in many Japanese restaurants, and place all over, and have never had better…The
place was bustling and everything was just right…I highly recommend this
establishment. If you’re looking for a better, nicer and friendlier place – a
great wine list and dining a step up – Victor’s in Florence. It’s
the place to go.”

Oh my stars! Bliss on
plate…
I have been to Victor’s Bistro in Florence, SC TWICE recently and am going to combine those two trips into one post. Both times I was
lucky and had veteran servers, so the service was superb. On one of my visits, I had my …old faithful… menu item, the filet.
Their fillet is really the best in town. The chef understands this is not a cut of meat that needs to be chargrilled on the outside (shudder).
On my first visit this month I had the fresh catch. Tim Norwood stopped by our table and told us they are adding a fresh catch item to the
menu, and it will change every week. The night was pan seared grouper in a lemon butter sauce over sausage risotto. Oh my stars! Bliss on
plate. I have recently discovered the culinary joy that risotto adds to a dish. It is so much better than traditional rice. The sausage
risotto paired so nicely with the grouper. The grouper was cooked to perfection, and literally melted in my mouth. My husband wanted to try
a bite, and it was only after deep pondering and reflection that I was able to spare a bite (that, and the fact that he just stole it off my
plate.) Dessert is always, always, creme brulee. I know they HAVE other menu items, but I have no real need for them. Sure, I've tried the
molten lava cake, the pear pound cake, and the cheesecake. I really enjoy each of them, they are all excellent. However, for me, the creme
brulee is just the perfect ending to a perfect meal. I am not a coffee drinker, but I order coffee with my dessert. Then I massacre the coffee
by turing it into something that barely resembles coffee except that it is hot and has caffeine. If you are into seeing important local
Florentines, you can often spot at least one or two dining at Victor’s. I have seen everything from local politicians to Supreme Court
Justices to authors and other local dignitaries. On the flip side, if you don’t want to see and be seen? You can avoid the crowds easily
and enjoy a quite meal. I think that is the hallmark of a good restaurant. The servers also remeber what you like and your preferences. Come
on now, you know you have always wanted to be able to go in and say …Give me the usual… and they know what you are talking about.
You just about get that at Victor’s, except you won’t want to order the same menu item every time. Personally I’m pretty
happy with the menu as it is. If I had to make changes, they would be relatively minimal. I wish they would add a stuffed baked potato to
some of their items. I also miss the regular smoked salmon plate with crackers, the smoked salmon martini doesn’t do it for me. I have
heard men say they would like at least one hearty steak and baked potato on the menu. I give Victor’s a rare 5 out of 5 Palmetto Trees.

Victor’s
and P.A.’s a marriage made in heaven
“This union of two of Florence’s
most popular restaurants was much anticipated, but
is it a match made in heaven? There was only one
way to find out…I had barely warmed my seat
before my favorite bottle of champagne was being
poured, along with olive oil and balsamic vinegar
in which to dip the warm complimentary warm bread…The
French onion soup is simply the best I’ve ever
eaten…Both steaks were tender as angel thighs,
full flavored and grilled exactly to specification…Crème
Brulee was a sweet and satisfying ending to a memorable
meal…The soothing sounds of Peggy Yarborough
playing the piano and singing combined with wonderful
food, attentive service and intimate atmosphere make
it likely the marriage between Victor’s and
P.A.’s will last a long, long time.”

Note
to Gourmet Magazine: Check out Victor’s Bistro
“Dear Gourmet Magazine: We have an excellent restaurant in our town that
I would like to call to your attention. It is Victor’s Bistro…My
husband and I were very impressed with their cuisine. As a native of Buffalo,
NY, I was sure I would never have a better onion soup than in my home town. I
was wrong. Victor’s onion soup was the finest I have had, made from pure
beef stock, sweet onions and luscious melted cheese atop…We’re a
medium-sized Southern town, and we are very fortunate to have Victor’s
Bistro in our midst for special dinners with a continental flavor.”

good food, very good wine and very good company…
“I would like to tell you how pleased I was to have dinner with you at

I was especially pleased to discover your delightful European cuisine…It
is an honor and privilege to have our handcrafted wines on your wine list...We
would be delighted to welcome you at our cellars Gratien & Meyer in Saumur
should you travel to the Loire Valley.”

Wonderful, outstanding and very special…
Hi Tim, just wanted you to know that Ian, his Dad, my three brothers from Aiken, and I had a great meal and time last night.
Ian and I loved the Tuna Diane special. Your new chef did a wonderful job. We would LOVE to see that added to your menu as the permenent
tuna preparation. The best recipe you have had in years. The tuna appetizer continues to be a winner too. My three brothers all had the lamb
and were glad they did. Ian and I do not eat meat, so I can not vouch for that personally. I look forward to trying the new menu, but hope
you have lots of choices for the poultry/fish/seafood only eaters. Again, last night was a great birthday celebration and the service
was outstanding as usual. Just remeber, the Tuna Diane was very SPECIAL.
